Broadway Star Brian Stokes Mitchell To Performs in New Canaan

Two-time Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, dubbed “leading man extraordinaire” by, will be headlining The Summer Theatre of New Canaan Benefit Gala – Dreaming The Impossible Dream – on Saturday May 2nd at the newly renovated Country Club of New Canaan.

On Broadway, Mitchell is well known for his Tony winning role in Kiss Me Kate, Tony nominated roles in Man of La Mancha, Ragtime, and King Hedly II.  When not in New York, Mitchell travels the nation performing to sold out performance halls. He enjoys a career that spans Broadway, television, film, and concert appearances with the country’s finest conductors and orchestras.

“It is an honor and quite exciting to bring Brian Stokes Mitchell to perform here in Connecticut in support of our theatre,” says Melody Meitrott Libonati, the theatre’s artistic director.   She adds, “Stoke’s support of theatre arts organizations and educational outreach programs is an inspiration to us all."

Additionally, Mitchell has performed twice at the White House in conjunction with PBS’s “Great Performances.”  

He is starring in the upcoming City Center’s Broadway Encores series Love Life with Kate Baldwin and will headline with Audra McDonald at the 2020 Kennedy Center Gala this spring.   Mitchell Bio

“Our theatre company is also thrilled that we can honor and recognize Frank Bennack and Mary Lake Polan for their generous support of the performing arts and our programs” adds Libonati.  Frank is the Vice Chair and former CEO of the Hearst Corporation. Dr. Mary Lake Polan was chair of obstetrics and gynecology for 15 years at Stanford University School of Medicine and returned to the Yale School of Medicine faculty as a clinical professor of obstetrics, gynecology & reproductive sciences.  Mary Lake is an Emerita Trustee of Connecticut College and is currently a member of the Board of Overseers of the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University. Gala tickets include pre and post show cocktail receptions, dinner, live auction and Brian Stokes Mitchell in concert. A limited number of concert only tickets are available. 2020 marks The Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s 17th season as Connecticut’s award-winning professional theatre.  This season’s main stage show is the multi Tony Award winning Best Musical, Billy Elliot The Musical, running July 10 - 26. For young families and children they will present “The Wizard of Oz July 18-26. Additionally, the Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s education and outreach programs engage hundreds of students.  Programs include a Junior Company for middle school students, a high school theatre intensive, an award-winning theatre program for children 8-18 with special needs and a professional college internship program.
