“Singin’ In The Rain” begins Performances

July 6 at Waveny Park, New Canaan

The Summer Theatre of New Canaan (STONC), Fairfield County’s professional summer theatre company based in Waveny Park, will open its 14th season of three great shows! –  the great American musical, Singin’ in the Rain – on July 6 and premieres their new musical for young families The Dancing Princesses and The Adventures of Robin Hood playing weekends in July.

Singin’ in the Rain, the Broadway musical based on the legendary MGM Musical by the same name that featured Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O’Conner. The musical includes all the great songs and scenes like Make Em Laugh, Good Morning, Moses Supposes, Beautiful Girls, All I Do is Dream of You and of the title song Singin’ in the Rain – complete with rain storm on stage. This musical comedy bridges Hollywood’s transition in the 1920s from silent movies to the “talkies”. The show features a large cast of professional actors and dancers. Leading players include Connecticut actors Jodi Stevens of Weston as Lina Lamont, Annabelle Fox originally from Wilton, now NYC as Kathy Selden,  Mike Boland of Fairfield as RF Simpson  and New York Actors  Matt Tiberi as Don Lockwood and David Rossetti as Cosmo Brown.  Performances are Thursday through Saturday at 8pm and Sundays at 4pm.  A special “Senior Sunday” matinee performance on July 9 offers substantially discounted tickets for all seniors 62 or older.

The Dancing Princesses Now though July 30 Waveny Park Summer Theatre of New Canaan.

Now playing for children of all ages, STONC has two exciting theatre for a young audience shows thatl run on weekends through July.  The Dancing Princesses, a new musical that is premiering this summer was developed at the summer theatre and is based on the Grimm’s fairy tale The 12 Dancing Princess. Melody Meitrott Libonati the artistic director of the summer theatre explains “We are very excited by the great audience responses from children and adults. It is about family, transformation and self-empowerment all great themes for our children.” She adds, “How wonderful to have had Princesses was brought to us for development from two of our past theatre artists - Ali Tesluk who conceived the adaptation and Nathan Fosbinder who wrote the book, music and lyrics”.  This will be the 4th wolrd premeire the summer theatre has developed for young audiences. Others include Cinderella A Fairy's Tale, Merrily Mannerly and Six Impossible Things

Beginning July 15th STONC begins performances of The Adventures of Robin Hood, This is a tale that’s been told a thousand times – although never quite like this. “This show has great story telling techniques that children will love” explains Libonati. Robin Hood, Adapted by Oliver Emanual and premiered at the Kennedy Center in 2015 receiving rave reviews, features two professional actors from Chicago, Ella Raymont and Oman Sade who perform all 20 roles while adding some modern day twists. All theatre for young audience show performances are weekends 10am and 1pm on Saturdays and 11am and 1pm on Sundays at Waveny Park, New Canaan through July 30. Tickets, show times and more information are available online at stonc.org or via box office 203-966-4634.
