“Miracles are being conjured up at Summer Theatre of New Canaan with their first-class production.”

“Recommended for both children and adults, this production at Summer Theatre of New Canaan is nearly as powerful and moving as the original Broadway one.”

“Matilda exists somewhere between the outrageously absurd to the starkly realistic, and this production walks the fine line between the two without ever missing a step. The entire company is exceptional, with all the leads giving terrific performances.”

“A truly unforgettable evening of theatre.” – TALKIN’ BROADWAY, Zander Opper

“A Broadway quality show.”

“MATILDA THE MUSICAL is a must-see or must-see again for all ages.”

“Matilda the Musical is an ambitious show to stage, but that has never stopped Summer Theatre of New Canaan from putting large professional quality productions, regardless of the venue.”

– BROADWAY WORLD, Sherry Shameer Cohen

“⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️” (Out of 4)

“Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s MATILDA THE MUSICAL is colorful, funny, and packed with talented performers, but its greatest strength is that it never loses sight of why Matilda remains such a satisfying hero. She sees cruelty, stupidity, and injustice and refuses to sit quietly while the adults make a mess of everything.”

“Charlotte Surak is terrific in the title role, playing Matilda with intelligence, confidence, and just enough mischief.

“Director Allegra Libonati keeps the production moving across the enormous NCHS stage, filling it with bright scenic pieces, aerial work, energetic choreography, and a large ensemble.”

– THE BROADGAYS, Stephen Kearley

“This magnificent production of “Matilda The Musical” marks Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s 23rd season of award-winning shows.”

“The name “Matilda” is derived from German roots and refers to someone who is “Strong,” “Willful” and “Clever.” Matilda is played here by an amazingly talented 8-year-old, Charlotte Surak.”

– CT CRITICS CIRCLE, Marlene Gaylinn

“It’s the theme of standing up against bullies that locks the musical in for me…Allegra Libonati captures this with glee as she leads an overall fantastic cast, invested in the necessary broad performances for such a comic musical.”

“Summer Theatre of New Canaan has put together an excellent production of Matilda. The visual storytelling in the performances is broad and hilarious.”

– YESTERDAY’S MATINEE, Tim Leininger

“The Summer Theatre of New Canaan has a special treat for children of all ages that is filled with music and mystery, magic and meanies…”

“[Matilda The Musical] will keep you on the edge of your seat.” – CT INSIDER, Bonnie Goldberg
