(Book) Work for theatre includes Debris, Osama the Hero, After the End, Love and Money, Taking Care of Baby, DNA, Orphans, The Gods Weep, and The Ritual Slaughter of Gorge Mastromas. He has written the book for the new musical of Pinocchio which opens at the National Theatre at the end of 2017, and in 2018 his new play Girls and Boys opens at the Royal Court. His plays have been performed worldwide and to date have been translated into nearly forty languages. For television he co-wrote and co-created Pulling and wrote and created Utopia, and for film he wrote the screenplay for Black Sea, directed by Kevin MacDonald. He also wrote the book for the Olivier and Tony winning Matilda the Musical. In 2010 DNA became a set text on the GCSE English Literature syllabus.

(Author) Roald Dahl (1916-1990) was the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG and many more of the world’s best-loved children’s stories. He remains one of the world’s greatest storytellers and is celebrated annually by the world’s biggest author-based event, Roald Dahl Day – which is recognised across the globe on 13th September. His first children’s story, James and the Giant Peach, published in 1961 and was a huge hit. Every subsequent book became a best-seller. Today, his stories are available in 59 languages and, by a conservative estimate, he has sold more than 250 million books. Many of these stories have also been adapted for stage and screen, including the 1971 film classic Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Wes Anderson’s acclaimed Fantastic Mr Fox, and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s multi-award winning production of Matilda The Musical.

Lauren is the Theatre Coordinator for Saxe Middle School, here in New Canaan, and Costume Supervisor for NCHS. Lauren directs, choreographs, and costume designs all over Fairfield County for schools and community theatres. She is the Artistic Director of her production company, Diva Star Productions and a proud member of Actor’s Equity. (Props Master) Fiona Stevens is excited to join the Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s production team as props master! Fiona has a background in film & television production, including producing short films like tri-state festival selection Pilea. Her previous works include Macbeth, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Legally Blonde, Mamma Mia!, and Clue. When she’s not haunting a theatre department or creatively scheming, Fiona can be found reading as many books as she possibly can. (Production Stage Manager), from the Pacific Northwest, holds degrees from Eastern Oregon University (BA) and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (MFA). His stage management credits include work with Usher, Katy Perry, Opera Las Vegas, Opera Columbus, Opera Idaho, iLuminate, Spiegelworld, and national tours of Jim Henson’s Labyrinth in Concert and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in Concert. He also served as Production Coordinator for Terhal by Dragone in Saudi Arabia.

(Associate Director) brings a diverse range of experience as an actor, casting associate and director. She toured internationally with West Side Story performing in over 15 countries, including Japan, India and Thailand. Additional favorite performance credits include Peter Pan, State Fair, and Hairspray. Favorite creative credits include: West Side Story (Opera Columbus, dir. Allegra Libonati), “The Bard at Bristow” (STONC, dir. Allegra Libonati), Spring Awakening, Evita, Seussical, Once on this Island, Mary Poppins, Shrek and The Little Mermaid.

(Associate Sound Designer) Derek is ecstatic to work on his first production for STONC. After moving to New York City in April, he is excited to be a part of the STONC team. He would like to thank his wife, Grace, for constantly supporting him in everything he does.

Artistic Director

As a professional director, actress and educator, Melody has performed leading roles on Broadway, National Tours and regional theatre companies. She held a running role on the soap opera, One Life to Live and has been featured in numerous national and regional TV commercials. She has also sung on award winning radio and TV jingles.

As a director, Melody has staged many plays, musicals and operas utilizing professional, student and local talents. For Summer Theatre of New Canaan, she has directed many shows including Cinderella, Peter Pan, The Sound of Music, The Music Man, Big River, West Side Story, Camelot, You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown, Singing in the Rain, Beauty and the Beast and Mary Poppins.

Melody wrote and produced a pilot TV program, “Melody’s Drama Rama Kids”, adapted from her pre-school creative play program taught in New York City and Connecticut.

She is the founding director of The Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan which features a staff of professional performance instructors who teach private classes in voice, piano, guitar, dance and acting as well as group classes in musical theatre, voice, dance and acting. The Conservatory’s goal is to awaken, nurture and grow each student’s creative abilities in the performing arts by offering professional training, workshops, and exciting performance opportunities. Melody holds a teaching degree from Ithaca College in Drama-Speech and is a member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA.
